The 10 Best Cities for Happiness in the U.S.
What makes people happy isn’t only about the number on a paycheck. A new study from WalletHub suggests that where you live could play just as large a role in shaping contentment and quality of life.Researchers evaluated 182 of the most populous U.S. cities across three main categories: emotional and physical well-being, income and employment, and community and environment. Metrics ranged from life expectancy and depression rates to commute times, safety, and local weather conditions.
As WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo explained, “Research shows that having more money only increases your happiness until you’re making at least $75,000 per year—anything more you earn likely won’t have an impact.” Instead, choosing a city that supports both mental and physical health, offers supportive communities, and provides balance between work and leisure can play a defining role in personal happiness.
Drawing from data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other federal sources, WalletHub identified the nation’s 10 happiest cities. Paul Hanaoka / Unsplash
