Greene Feuds With Musk’s AI Bot Over Christian Identity

A public feud has erupted between Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s X platform, after the bot offered a critical analysis of her Christian identity.  Jack Gruber-USA TODAY

Greene Declares Beliefs in X Post

On Friday, Greene posted on X asserting that she is “a Christian, an imperfect sinner saved by grace and faith in Jesus. I’m a nationalist, a proud American, who loves my country and wants to make our home nation the best place for all American citizens and future generations to come.” When a user asked Grok whether Greene is “really” a Christian, the AI responded by noting that while she publicly identifies as one, “her Christian nationalism and support for conspiracy theories, like QAnon, spark debate.”  MCKENZIE LANGE/ Staff / USA TODAY NETWORK

Grok Critiques Greene’s Alignment With Christian Values

“Critics, including religious leaders, argue her actions contradict Christian values of love and unity, citing her defense of January 6 and divisive rhetoric,” Grok stated. The bot added that determining the authenticity of her faith is subjective, though “her faith appears genuine to her.”  Megan Mendoza/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

Grok Highlights Debate Over Faith and Behavior in Christianity

Grok expanded on the point in a follow-up answer, noting that while belief in Christ is “central” to Christianity, many believe that “true faith must show through actions, like love and humility.”  X.AI Corp. / Wikimedia

Greene Accuses AI of Pushing Propaganda, Defends Faith

Greene reacted strongly to the AI’s analysis, slamming it as “left-leaning” and accusing it of promoting “fake news and propaganda.” She rebuked the AI’s credibility, writing, “The judgment seat belongs to GOD, not you, a non-human AI platform,” and warned that reliance on AI over individual discernment could lead people astray.  MCKENZIE LANGE/ Staff / USA TODAY NETWORK

Greene’s Past X Post Stirred Controversy

Controversy surrounding Greene isn’t new. Last month, she faced backlash for an X post that some observers interpreted as referencing the death of Pope Francis, writing, ‘Evil is being defeated by the hand of God,’ though she did not mention him by name.  MCKENZIE LANGE/ Staff / USA TODAY NETWORK

Catholic League Urges Bipartisan Condemnation of Greene’s “Bigoted Remarks”

Following Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s post, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights sent a letter to the chairman and ranking member of the House Ethics Committee, urging both Republicans and Democrats to unite in denouncing what it described as Greene’s “bigoted remarks.”  Josh Morgan / USA TODAY NETWORK
