Whole Foods Is Recalling Its Minestrone Soup in 17 States
By Erica Coleman · May 23, 2026
If you bought minestrone soup at Whole Foods Market recently, check your refrigerator before you eat it.
Kettle Cuisine has recalled its 24-ounce Whole Foods Market Minestrone Soup cups sold across 17 states and Washington D.C. after a single cup was found to contain shrimp — an ingredient not listed anywhere on the product label. For the roughly 8 million Americans with shellfish allergies, consuming even a small amount of undeclared shrimp can trigger reactions ranging from hives and swelling to anaphylaxis.
The recall covers cups with a best-by date of May 27, 2026. If you have this product in your refrigerator right now, do not eat it.
Affected states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington, plus Washington D.C.
What to look for: The 24-ounce cups are labeled “Whole Foods Market Minestrone Soup” with UPC code 0-99482-47757-7. The best-by date is printed on the bottom of the cup. Any cup with a May 27 date is included in the recall.
What to do: Do not open the cup or attempt to remove the shrimp. Return the product to the Whole Foods location where you purchased it for a full refund. No receipt is required.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. The recall was initiated voluntarily by Kettle Cuisine after the contaminated cup was identified. The FDA has been notified and the recall is posted on the agency’s website at FDA.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts.
